In the Bible story, Mary and Martha were sisters who opened their home to Jesus as he travelled. While Martha cheerfully attended to their guests, ensuring everyone was running smoothly, Mary sat in quiet contemplation, listening to Christ’s teachings.

Revd Sheridan James, the vicar of St Catherine's Hatcham in South-East London, says she feels like both Mary and Martha in one body, forever torn between trying to be more like one sister, at the expense of being like the other.

This series reflects that duality, showing the many facets of James’ job away from her Sunday congregation.
