During the warm summer of lockdown in 2020, the sight of shadows and sunshine on brick walls felt obliquely emblematic of the country: barriers errected to keep people separated and safe, while tempting warm weather awaits outside. The strange shapes of the shadows, meanwhile, magnify the absence in the streets.
